No. 7 Lakers Blank Slippery Rock, 3-0

Slippery Rock, Pa. – An early goal from senior Emily Warren was all the Mercyhurst College field hockey team needed, as the seventh-ranked Lakers pinned a 3-0 setback on Slippery Rock in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division contest Friday afternoon in Slippery Rock, Pa. With the win, the Lakers improve to 6-2 on the season and 3-1 in PSAC play.

Warren sealed the Lakers ninth-straight win over The Rock when she connected off a penalty corner assist from sophomore Rachel Sluberski just 2:16 into the contest. It was her seventh goal of the season and third game-winner.

Despite the early goal, the score would remain unchanged until late in the second half when the Lakers connected on back-to-back goals less than 10 minutes apart. Junior Sara Wowkowych got the offense going again thanks to an assist from senior Kristen Fogle at 60:03, while senior Courtney Loper followed with an unassisted strike at 70:00.

In addition to the winning streak, sophomore Ashley Wiskup extended the Lakers' shutout streak over The Rock to six games with four saves. Slippery Rock has not scored a goal on Mercyhurst since a 2-1 loss back on Oct. 2, 2002. Mercyhurst finished the game with a 10-6 advantage in shots and a 10-3 edge in penalty corners.

The Lakers will look for their seventh win of the season this Tuesday, Sept. 29, when they face non-conference foe Houghton at 4 p.m. in Houghton, N.Y.
