Erie, Pa. – Mercyhurst has been ranked No. 18 in the most recent adidas/NSCAA national poll, released Tuesday, Sept. 22. The Lakers have moved up three spots from their initial national ranking this season one week ago. The team carries a 6-1 record overall entering a matchup at Slippery Rock Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Mercyhurst is one of three PSAC schools to be ranked nationally this week, as Millersville drew the No. 6 rating. PSAC West opponent Slippery Rock holds the 13th position, moving up from 15th one week ago, at 7-1.
The Lakers posted a perfect 6-0 record during their early-season homestand, outscoring opponents 19-2 during that span. Most recently the team defeated the Univ. of the District of Columbia 4-0 Thursday, Sept. 17.
Nicholas Thompson scored his sixth goal of the season, while
Paul Neill scored twice in the victory.
Austin Solomon notched his first career goal, and
Ryan Wagner posted the clean sheet.
The Lakers' next match takes place Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 6 p.m. at No. 13 Slippery Rock. The Rock leads the PSAC West with a 3-0 divisional record, while Mercyhurst is 2-0 in PSAC West play. Mercyhurst leads the all-time series, 13-9-1, but SRU won both meetings in 2008.
