Game 2: WCU 7, Merchyhurst 4

ERIE, Pa. --  West Chester softball swept a doubleheader from Mercyhurst College as the Lakers completed their third twibill in as many days, winning 3-0 and 7-4.

The Golden Rams move to 26-16 overall while the Laker softball team dips to 13-20 overall.

In Game 1, WCU scored a run in the top of the second and third and added an insurance run in the top of the seventh to secure the victory.  Pitcher Shannon Padula went the distance, scattering five hits while striking out three.

Leading the Lakers at the plate was Elizabeth Maier in a 2-for-3 effort while Emily Redig, Erica Beidler and Kara Gorgos rounded out the hitting.  On the mound, Amanda Norman went the distance in the loss, allowing three runs, two earned, on seven hits while striking out four.

In Game 2, West Chester broke open a close 2-1 game in the top of the fourth when the Golden Rams pushed three across thanks to two doubles and a sacrifice fly.  They added another run in the fifth and one more in the seventh for the final score.

Mercyhurst countered with one in the bottom of the fourth and two in the seventh after Redig's two-run homer, but the Lakers rally would fall short.

Padula went the distance in the nightcap as well, this time allowing four earned runs on 10 hits while fanning four batters.  For the Lakers, starter Kristi Janoske took the loss, giving up five earned runs on six hits and walking three.  Kari Amboyer came on in the fifth inning in relief and allowed two earned runs on six hits.

The Lakers take a day rest before traveling to Clarion on Monday, April 13 in a doubleheader that was rescheduled from April 8.
