Volleyball Falls at Wheeling Jesuit, 3-0

WHEELING, W. Va. -- The Mercyhurst College women's volleyball team dropped a straight-set match to Wheeling Jesuit on Saturday, 25-16, 25-13, 25-16.

The Lakers fall to 19-11 overall after the non-conference tilt against the Cardinals, who improve to 28-5 on the year.

Gretta Freyermuth guided the Lakers offense with seven kills while Becky Leusch added five and Beckey Smith collected four kills.  Defensively, Elyse Texido picked up six digs and Justine Swanson added five.  Freyermuth also tied for the team lead in blocks as both she and Justine Smith recorded two on the night.

The Lakers return to action this Friday when they host IUP at 7 p.m.  It is the last weekend of regular season play in the PSAC with the Crimson Hawks kicking off back-to-back home contests for Mercyhurst.

The Lakers look to make their second-straight PSAC Tournament, and with just two matches remaining, Mercyhurst is in fifth place, a half-game behind Gannon University.  The Golden Knights host Edinboro, the third-place squad in the Western Division, tonight at 7 p.m. in a game that has playoff contentions for all three Erie area teams as only the top four in each division qualify for the conference postseason tournament.
