Edinboro, Pa. – The No. 19 Mercyhurst College women's soccer team used a pair of
Taylor Hilinski goals and one from Sarah Powell to defeat host Edinboro 3-1 Tuesday night.
With the win, Mercyhurst is now 4-0-1, including a 2-0-1 mark in the PSAC West, while Edinboro falls to 2-2-1, 0-2-1 in PSAC West play.
The Lakers took a quick 2-0 lead on goals 3:05 apart, with
Taylor Hilinski scoring her fifth goal of the season on a breakaway from 20 yards. Sarah Powell assisted on the goal, which came at 18:30.
Three minutes later, Powell received a breakaway opportunity of her own when
Jamie Schroter found her with a pass which she deftly converted into a goal, shooting the ball past Edinboro goalkeeper Lisa Bartolowits at the 21:35 mark. The goal, Powell's fourth on the year, was aided by Schroter's sixth assist of 2008.
The Lakers fired 13 shots to the Fighting Scots' two in the first half, and carried a two-goal lead into halftime.
The second half was more evenly played, as both teams registered nine shots and each side attempted three corner kicks.

Jamie Laturell took a shot that rebounded to Hilinski, who then rifled a shot past Bartolowits from 20 yards away for her second goal of the contest and sixth on the campaign, making it 3-0.
Edinboro ended Mercyhurst's shutout bid at 80:37, as Jessica Rexroat took a pass from Amber McLaughlin and scored on a long shot from the left side into the right corner of the net, cutting the Fighting Scots' deficit to 3-1.
The Lakers held the two-goal advantage the rest of the way, winning 3-1 in Edinboro's home opener.
Mercyhurst doubled up Edinboro on the shot clock for the game, 22-11, and 10-5 in shots on goal.
The Lakers take the pitch again this Saturday at PSAC West foe Indiana (Pa.), with kickoff scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
