Lakers Shutout At East Stroudsburg

East Stroudsburg, Pa. – Back-to-back goals within a five-minute span was all East Stroudsburg needed to hand the Mercyhurst College field hockey team a 2-0 loss Sunday afternoon at Whitenight Field in East Stroudsburg, Pa.

The Lakers, who fall to 2-7 overall, held the Warriors without a shot on goal through the entire first half. Despite the strong defensive effort though, ESU would crack the Lakers' game plan with two goals early in the second.

Caitlin Brownley broke the 0-0 draw with her fifth goal of the season at 43:14 followed by an insurance marker from Joanna Reckley at 47:51 to seal the Warriors' eighth victory of the season and second consecutive home shutout.

Senior Jen Macri suffered the loss in goal, stopping one shot over 70 minutes of action. Counterpart Carolyn Kisling made four saves.

East Stroudsburg held the advantage in shots, 10-8, and penalty corners, 13-9.

Mercyhurst concludes its four-game road swing this Wednesday with a contest against Seton Hill. Game time is set for 4 p.m. in Greensburg, Pa.
