Lakers Lose To Edinboro, Point Park

Lauren Kubinski had 28 kills in two matches Saturday.
Edinboro, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's volleyball team made the short trip to Edinboro University Saturday to play a conference match against the Fighting Scots and a non-conference match against Point Park. Playing shorthanded, the Lakers lost both matches in four sets, dropping the opener to Edinboro 25-14, 25-19, 22-25, 25-23 and the finale to Point Park 25-22, 26-28, 25-17, 25-20.

Mercyhurst played without an injured Jenna Matson, who had a season-high 25 kills in the Lakers come-from-behind win over rival Gannon earlier in the week. Mercyhurst struggled to generate much offense without her in the lineup.

Against Edinboro, Erin English had nine kills and Lauren Kubinski added eight. Kendall Ashworth finished with 17 digs.

Against Point Park, Kubinski had 20 kills and freshman Chantal Haase had seven and four blocks. Ashworth finished with nine digs and Justine Swanson added eight.

Mercyhurst is now 7-6 on the season and 2-2 in PSAC West play. The Lakers will host Clarion Tuesday at 7 p.m.
