Erie, Pa. - The No. 10 Mercyhurst men's lacrosse team shut out the Seton Hill Griffins in the second half and tallied a season-high 13 goals to win its third consecutive game. Mike Thon had four goals and two assists for a season-high six points to lead the Lakers to a 13-5 win Wednesday. Mercyhurst improves to 5-3 overall, while the Griffins drop to 6-6.

Mercyhurst trailed 2-0 for the first seven minutes of the first period until Michael Sciulli answered with a goal off of a pass from Scott Sullivan. The Lakers then exploded offensively, outscoring the Griffins 12-3 in the remaining three periods.

The Griffins attempted to continue to build up the lead up with two more goals to open the second period from Joel Zalesky and Will Robbins. Sullivan would put one in at the 10:23 mark to stop the two goal run before Seton Hill's Joel Zalesky would score the last goal of the game for the Griffins at the 7:54 in the second period. Mercyhurst's Todd Richardson, Ryan Arnold, and Thon each tallied a goal apiece to give the Lakers a 6-5 lead at the half.

Thon continued the three-goal binge for Mercyhurst, scoring two more goals to open the third period. Mike Bartlett contributed the final goal of the third to put the Lakers up 9-5 going into the final period. Finally in the fourth period, Richardson, Thon, Aaron Manzer and Tyler Burton all tallied goals to help the Lakers secure the 13-5 win.

The Lakers dominated faceoffs, wining 15-of-21 and picked up 42 groundballs to Seton Hill's 24. Mercyhurst also fired off 51 shots to the Griffins' 18.

Offensively, Richardson ended the day with a career-high three goals and Bartlett and Manzer each contributed a goal apiece. Sciulli, Arnold, and Burton all had multi-point games with one goal and one assist each.

Goalkeeper Jason LaShomb finished with four saves in the first 53 minutes of play, while freshman Zach Nash made three saves in the final seven minutes.

Mercyhurst will continue its home stand against No. 4 C.W. Post Saturday at 12 p.m.
