Ann Arbor, Mich. - With 1:12 left in Friday's University of Michigan Invitational contest against Cal Lutheran, Mercyhurst freshman Rachel Griepsma snapped a tie and gave the Lakers an 8-7 win.

It was the sixth win in eight games for the Lakers as they continue to improve upon the best start in program history. Griepsma totaled four goals, three assists, two steals and four drawn ejections in the game, and her game-winner came on a one on none breakaway.

Mercyhurst jumped out to an early lead, taking a 3-0 lead into the half and pushing it to 4-0 before Cal Lutheran scored five unanswered to take a 5-3 advantage.

The Lakers, though, answered right back, finishing the third period strong with two goals to tie the game, setting the stage for Griepsma's dramatic goal.

Senior goalkeeper Gina Mieras stopped 11 shots in four quarters of action and added an assist. Senior Christine Somera chipped in with two goals, three drawn ejections, two steals and an assist.

Fellow senior Carrie Willison made her first appearance since the season opener on Feb. 23. She recorded one steal in her return. Chrissy Genian and Jenna Jefferds also scored goals for the Lakers.
