Erie, Pa. - The No. 7/6-ranked Mercyhurst women's hockey team and the visiting Wayne State Warriors battled to a 2-2 overtime tie Saturday afternoon before 760 fans at the MIC. The Lakers' record now stands at 19-6-3, 4-1-1 in the CHA, while Wayne State is 17-6-3, 5-0-1, respectively.

After a scoreless first period, Wayne State led 2-0 with goals at the end of the second period and beginning of the third. Junior forward Lindsay DiPietro intercepted a Mercyhurst pass deep in Laker territory and beat netminder Laura Hosier stick-side for an unassisted, short-handed goal with 1:07 left.

Sam Poyton gave the guests a 2-0 cushion just 21 seconds into the third period as she one-timed a perfect cross-ice pass from Melissa Boal.

The Lakers cut the deficit to one five minutes later as Geena Prough scored her seventh goal of the season, assisted by Jesse Scanzano. Stephanie Jones tied the game at two at the 11:51 mark with a pretty pass by Meghan Agosta. Agosta raced to the puck after Melissa Lacroix dumped the puck out of Mercyhurst's zone.

Mercyhurst had plenty of chances to score in the extra session, outshooting the Warriors 5-1. Two Agosta breakaways were denied by Valery Turcotte, the last one coming as time expired.

Both teams struggled on the power play as Mercyhurst finished 0-for-4 and Wayne State was 0-for-2.

The Lakers outshot the Warriors, 28-24, including a combined 17-5 advantage in the third and fourth periods.

After the contest, there was an exhibition shootout, something that occurs after every College Hockey America game this season. Wayne State won the shootout on the fourth skater, Adrianna Pfeffer, who beat Courtney Drennen.

Mercyhurst will conclude its eight-game homestand next weekend against Niagara, Feb. 15-16 at 7 p.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.
