The Mercyhurst women's basketball team led Hillsdale 23-21 with 6:48 left but the took over from there and handed the Lakers a 90-55 loss Saturday. Paris Pugliese led Mercyhurst with 14 points and five rebounds. The Lakers are now 6-18 on the year and 1-13 in the GLIAC.
Mercyhurst held the two-point lead with 6:48 left in the first half, when Hillsdale went on a 7-0 run and led32-25 at half. Mercyhurst shot 11-for-27 from the field and 2-for-7 from three-point range. The Lakers played aggressive defense, allowing just one Hillsdale three-pointer and getting five steals. Hillsdale dominated the boards though, bringing down 22 rebounds to the Lakers' 15.
Mercyhurst came out flat-footed in the second half as the Chargers piled on 10 more points before the Lakers could respond. Hillsdale continued to take advantage, never allowing the Lakers to get closer than 15 points after the 16-minute mark.
Stephanie Prischak contributed 13 points and four rebounds. Samantha Loadman added nine points.
Hillsdale is now 19-3 overall and 12-2 in conference play.
The Lakers will travel to Findlay on Thursday. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
