Lakers Extend Win Streak To Three

Hilton Head Island, S.C. - The Mercyhurst men's tennis team extended its win streak to three consecutive matches with an 8-1 win over Capital University Thursday. The Lakers are now 3-0 on their spring break trip.

Playing singles first, Mercyhurst locked up the victory by winning five of six matches. The team added to the final score by sweeping all three doubles matches. The Lakers dominated the bottom of the lineup as the No. 3 through No. 6 singles players never lost more than four games in any set.

Adam Marnik swept his opponent 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 and Juan Franco rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 6. Ronald Heurich won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3 and Kyle King won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4. Tim Hansson lost the opening set of his match at No. 1 singles, but dropped just one game the rest of the way in a 4-6, 6-1, 6-0 victory.

In doubles play, Hansson and Franco won 8-2 at No. 1. Mijo Cotic and Marnik won 8-5 at No. 2 and Heurich and King picked up a victory by an identical score at No. 3.

Mercyhurst improved to 3-3 and will complete its spring break trip by traveling to play Savannah College of Art and Design Friday at 4 p.m. Savannah is coached by former Mercyhurst women's tennis coach Chuck Keenan.
