Lakers Sweep St. John Fisher

Hilton Head Island, S.C. - The Mercyhurst men's tennis team rolled to an unblemished win over St. John Fisher, defeating the Cardinals 9-0 Wednesday. The match was completed over the course of two days as rain forced the postponement of the match after doubles play had completed Tuesday.

Mercyhurst dominated doubles play as Juan Franco and Tim Hansson won 8-1 at No. 1 and Ronald Heurich and Kyle King finished with an identical score at No. 3. Mijo Cotic and Adam Marnik won 8-3 at No. 2.

The Lakers quickly picked up the match-clinching fifth point as King won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 and Hansson rolled to a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 1. Cotic swept through his opponent at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-1, and Marnik won in straight sets at No. 5 singles, 7-6 (7-2), 6-4. Heurich and Franco both had to win super tie-break third sets. Heurich picked up the hard-fought 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 1-0 (10-4) win at No. 3 and Franco was victorious at No. 6, 6-0, 4-6, 1-0 (10-1).

The loss was St. John Fisher's first of the year, falling to 2-1 on the season. Mercyhurst has won two in a row to improve to 2-3. The Lakers will try to even their record of .500 Thursday against Capital at 9 a.m.
