RIT took three out of four points over the weekend as the Tigers defeated Mercyhurst, 4-2, Saturday evening. Mercyhurst dropped to 11-17-6 overall and 11-9-6 in Atlantic Hockey as RIT improved to 15-11-6 and 13-8-6, respectively.
RIT scored the first three goals of the game, two coming on special teams. Dan Ringwald scored his first goal of the season on the power play at 15:35 of the first period. An even-strength tally from Simon Lambert was followed by a short-handed goal by Brennan Sarazin less than a minute apart from each other in the second period.
The Lakers scored two early power-play goals in the third period to cut the deficit to 3-2, but Lambert's second goal of the game, behind the net, clinched the game for the Tigers.
RIT outshot Mercyhurst, 33-26. Mercyhurst was 2-for-10 on the power play while RIT was 1-for-4.
RIT's Louis Menard earned the win after stopping 24 shots in all 60 minutes. Mercyhurst junior Matt Lundin started the game and allowed three goals in over 34 minutes of action. Freshman Ryan Zapolski came on in relief and allowed one goal on 12 shots.
Mercyhurst's last regular season weekend series will be a home-and-home with Canisius. The Lakers and Griffs play in Buffalo on Friday, Feb. 29 at 7:05 p.m. followed by a game in Erie the following day at the same time.
