The Mercyhurst Lakers women's basketball team suffered a 95-69 loss Saturday to the Ashland Eagles. Mara Dreiser scored a career high 19 points and three other Lakers recorded points in the double digits. The Lakers are now 7-19 overall and 2-14 in the GLIAC.
Mercyhurst struggled from three point range, going 4-for-18 in the game. The Eagles limited their turnovers to nine in the contest, while the Lakers committed 14. Ashland also dominated the paint, putting up 44 points to the Lakers' 22.
Mercyhurst tied the game at 25 with 9:23 left in the first half, but Ashland stepped up the offensive to end the half leading 45-38. Samantha Loadman led the Lakers in scoring with 10 points in the first half. Mercyhurst also out-rebounded the Eagles 20-15 in the first twenty minutes of play.
In the second half, Ashland came out of the gates ripping off a 20-5 run that proved to close the doors on a Mercyhurst comeback. Dreiser scored 17 of her 19 points in the second half and Paris Pugliese contributed nine. The Eagles picked up their presence on the boards from the first half though, out-rebounding the Lakers 19 to 12.
In addition to Dreiser's 19 points, Pugliese ended the game with 14 points and tied her season high with nine rebounds. Amy Achesinski and Loadman both added 10 points.
Ashland is now 15-10 this season and 8-7 in the GLIAC.
Mercyhurst returns to the court when it travels to Gannon next Saturday. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
