Syracuse, N.Y. - Junior
Meghan Agosta and the Mercyhurst Lakers women's hockey team are starting to warm up. Agosta recorded her fourth career three-goal game Saturday as the Lakers completed a two-game sweep of Syracuse with a convincing 7-1 win in Syracuse, N.Y. Mercyhurst improved to 6-4 overall and to 2-0 in College Hockey America while the Orange fell to 3-8 and 0-4, respectively.
Sophomore
Jesse Scanzano's third successive goal of the weekend series, at 12:11 of the first, put Mercyhurst ahead to stay. Agosta scored her first of the game 44 seconds later on the power play as the Lakers went to the dressing room with a 2-0 advantage.
The lead grew to 6-0 in the second before Syracuse scored its only goal of the game in the middle period's last minute. Senior
Hayley McMeekin's power play goal at 17 seconds was followed by Agosta's even strength goal at 5:35, freshman
Kelley Steadman's power play goal at 11:28, and another Agosta even strength lamplighter at 17:59. Syracuse freshman forward Lisa Mullan broke the shutout at 19:28 with her second goal of the campaign.
Freshman
Jess Jones finished the scoring for Mercyhurst with her second of the year at 9:45 of the third. Mercyhurst outshot Syracuse 53-17 as freshman
Hillary Pattenden picked up her 6th win of the season in seven decisions.
Agosta finished the weekend set with four goals and three helpers. But she had plenty of help from Chouinard with a goal and three assists and Scanzano with three and three.
The Lakers will conclude an eight-game road trip next weekend with independent games at Providence and Brown. Mercyhurst will then take a week off before returning to the Mercyhurst Ice Center to host Syracuse on December 5 and 6.
