Lakers Fall 2-1 At Ohio Valley

Vienna, W. Va. – The Mercyhurst men's soccer team concluded its 2008 regular season with a 2-1 loss at Ohio Valley Saturday.
 
The Lakers held an advantage in most offensive categories except goals, but were unable to overcome a two-goal halftime deficit.
 
The Fighting Scots opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, as Danny Fernandez took a pass from Alan Porter and rifled it into the net for his first goal of the season.
 
Danny D'Amore made it 2-0 Ohio Valley in the 35th minute on an unassisted goal, his fourth marker of the campaign. The Fighting Scots took the 2-0 lead into halftime.
 
Mercyhurst pressed in the second half to make up for the deficit, taking eight corner kicks while outshooting Ohio Valley 10-8. The Lakers cut the lead in half at the 62:34 mark, as Michael De Rose scored his third goal of the season.
 
Mercyhurst was unable to add the equalizer in the late stages of the match, falling 2-1 in the end.
 
Mercyhurst outshot Ohio Valley 21-16 on the match, and attempted nine corner kicks to the Fighting Scots' five.
 
The Lakers have finished their regular season at 9-6-2. Mercyhurst failed to qualify for the PSAC tournament due to a 3-0 California (Pa.) win over Slippery Rock Saturday, and waits for the possibility of an NCAA playoff berth.
