Slippery Rock, Pa. – The No. 23 Mercyhurst men's soccer team fell 2-1 in a PSAC West night contest at Slippery Rock Wednesday.
The Lakers are now 8-4-2, 2-2-2 in the PSAC West, while The Rock improves to 11-4-1, 2-3 in PSAC West play. Slippery Rock extended its winning streak to six games.
The teams played to a scoreless first half despite 21 shots being taken, 14 for Slippery Rock and seven for Mercyhurst.
Anthony Paganie opened the scoring for The Rock early in the second half, converting a feed from Toby Bowser into a 1-0 Slippery Rock lead at 53:26.
Jeremy Deighton added another marker for Slippery Rock in the 61st minute, assisted by Patrick Cormac.
The Lakers rallied late, getting an unassisted goal from
Tommy Lund at 82:22. The goal was Lund's second of the season.
Mercyhurst was unable to find the equalizer in the late minutes, dropping the 2-1 decision.
Slippery Rock controlled the play for a majority of the evening, outshooting Mercyhurst 30-17, including 18-10 in shots on goal.
Keeper Danny Mudd made 16 saves for the Lakers and Greg Blum of The Rock made nine saves.
Mercyhurst hosts Lock Haven Saturday at 1 p.m. in its final regular season home contest of 2008.
