Princeton, N.J. - After opening the season with three-straight victories, the Mercyhurst men's water polo team dropped its second-consecutive game at the Princeton Invitational to a nationally-ranked Division I team. On Sunday, it was No. 13 Bucknell that downed the Lakers, 12-4.

Mercyhurst, now 3-2, suffered its only other loss of the season on Saturday evening against 15th-ranked Princeton. Despite the loss, the Lakers have been impressive early in the season, outscoring opponents 46-41 overall, and by a 35-16 margin in their three wins.

On Sunday, junior Andrew Schonhoff scored his team-leading ninth and 10th goals of the season, but Bucknell limited the Lakers to its lowest goal total of the 2007 season.

The Bisons scored three in the first half and three in the second to take a 6-0 lead at the half. Mercyhurst got on the board with two in the third, but Bucknell was able to match that total and finish strong, outscoring the Lakers 4-2 in the final period.

Senior Kevin Riordan added a goal and an assist, and freshman Ryan Speers continued his impressive freshman season by scoring his eighth goal of the season.

Mercyhurst travels to the California Lutheran Invitational in Thousand Oaks, Calif., for three games from Sept. 13-15.
