Seton Hill Halts Lakers' Win Streak

Greensburg, Pa. - Sophomore Emily Warren scored two goals and junior Jen Macri recorded a career-high 19 saves, but the Seton Hill Griffins scored on their only shot of the overtime period to edge the Mercyhurst field hockey team 3-2 in overtime Tuesday evening in Greensburg, Pa.

Seton Hill improves to 7-3 on the season and the loss snaps Mercyhurst's three-game winning streak that extends to Sept. 14. It is also the the second overtime loss and the fourth one-goal loss for the Lakers (3-6).

Warren's two goals against Seton Hill gives her four in the last two games and a team-leading six goals on the season.

After the squads battled to a 0-0 tie through one half of play, Erica Dececco broke the deadlock with a goal at 62:21. Warre, however, answered just three minutes later with both of her goals coming in a 54 second span, giving Mercyhurst a 2-1 advantage.

Seton Hill's Holy Thomas scored just 1:12 after Warren to retie the contest and send the game into overtime.

In overtime, the Lakers fired seven shots, all on goal, but Seton Hill goalkeeper Meredith Benson stopped all seven to add to her total of 16. Krista Archambeau made the most of Seton Hill's lone shot in the extra session, directing it past Macri for the game-winner.

Macri, making her first start of the season, went the full 79:03 and stopped the most shots by a Mercyhurst goalkeeper since Julie Smith's 19 at Seton Hill on Oct. 1, 2005.

Seton Hill held a 24-22 advantage in shots and an 11-10 edge in penalty corners.

Mercyhurst returns to action on Friday when it hosts the defending NCAA Division II champion and and No.2-ranked Bloomsburg at Tullio Field. Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
