Final Stats
The Mercyhurst field hockey team played Division I Davidson tough into the second half, tying the game 1-1 with just 28 minutes remaining. The Wildcats, however, proved too much, as they rallied to score nine unanswered goals and send the visiting Lakers to their third loss to start to the season.
In the first period, junior goalkeeper Jennifer Coleman made seven saves and Davidson managed its only goal when Jennie Mostellar scored unassisted 11:48 into the game.
The Lakers evened the score just 3:06 into the second half on sophomore Emily Warren's first goal of the season.
Davidson, however, quickly answered, as Eleanor Cowley scored seven minutes later on a penalty corner. Cowley assisted a Jen Willis goal to add to the lead, and from there, Davidson continued to build the lead, receiving two goals from Kayli Maxwell, three from Sarah Addison and one more from Willis.
The 10 goals by Davidson ties the 1998 Houghton squad for the most goals scored in one game against Mercyhurst.
Mercyhurst is now 0-3 for the first time since the program's inaugural season in 1997.
The Lakers will take on their second-straight Division I opponent on Friday, Sept. 8 when they travel to Robert Morris. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
