Lakers Tune Up For GLIAC Matches With Win Over Allegheny

Meadville, Pa. - The Mercyhurst women's tennis team geared up for a pair of upcoming GLIAC showdowns by defeating NCAA Division III Allegheny College 7-2 Tuesday. With the win, the Lakers remain undefeated at 5-0 on the season.

Mercyhurst had little trouble dispatching of the Gators, winning two of three doubles and five of six singles. Freshman Kim Ezzo dropped just one game combined in singles and doubles play on the afternoon.

Ezzo paired up with Jennifer Daly at the top of the doubles lineup for an 8-0 victory. She then won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, while Daly finished off her opponent at the top of the singles lineup 6-3, 7-5.

Christine Mersch and Kelton Macke picked up the other doubles point, rolling to an 8-4 win. Meghan Raynor survived a three-set match at No. 3 singles, winning 6-2, 3-6, 10-8, while Elizabeth Mullane won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4. Macke got a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles, while Maria Franco just missed making a sweep of singles play, losing in a third set super tiebreak at No. 6 singles 3-6, 7-6, 10-8.

The Lakers, at 2-0 in the GLIAC, will host Grand Valley State in a pivotal conference showdown Friday at 3:00 p.m. before hosting another conference school, Ferris State, Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
