Freshman Ryan Speers scored three goals and junior Alex Perry added two, but No. 19 Cal Baptist outscored the Lakers 5-3 in the second half to pull away for a 10-8 win Friday at the Cal Lutheran Tournament in Thousand Oaks, Calif.
The loss is the Lakers' four-straight after opening the season 3-0. All four of the losses, however, have come from Princeton, Bucknell and Cal Baptist, who are all ranked in the Men's National Collegiate Top 20 Poll. Cal Lutheran, who topped Mercyhurst on Friday, is No. 4 in Division III.
On Saturday, both team's scored two in the first and three in the second to end the half in a 5-5 tie. But in the second half, Cal Baptist outscored the Lakers 2-1 in the third period and 3-2 in the fourth to close out the win.
Juniors Jore Montero, Jake Coin and Andrew Schonhoff all scored one goal for the Lakers. Coin also added on assist and a team-high four steals. Schonoff led the team with four ejections drawn.
Freshman Andy Sekulski played all four quarters in goal for the Lakers and recorded 12 steals and three steals.
Action at the CLU Tournament continues Friday night as the Lakers take on Ceritos Community College in an exhibition and on Saturday, Mercyhurst faces No. 18-ranked Redlands at 1 p.m.
