Lakers Score Three in the Second Half to Push Past Seton Hill, 3-1

Greensburg, Pa. - The Mercyhurst Laker men's soccer team took one full step forward on Tuesday by defeating the Seton Hill Griffins, 3-1. The Lakers came off a disappointing opening weekend by defeating the Griffins and improving their record to 1-1-1. The Griffins fall to 0-1 on the year.

Seton Hill got on the scoreboard early with a goal off the foot of sophomore mildfielder Garrett Fishaw.Despite trailing 1-0 to the Griffins in the first half, the Laker offense stepped it up a few notches and scored two of their three goals early in the second half.

Junior midfielder Sean Spangler scored his first season goal off a Jeffrey Powell assist at the 47 minute mark. Sophomore Kurt Young scored the game-winning goal unassisted at the 52nd minute mark and freshman Billy Colton put the icing on the cake at the 75th minute mark off a Spangler assist.

The Lakers outshot the Griffins 13-5 and have now outshot their opponents 72-26 on the season. Seton Hill took a 4-3 edge in both corner kicks and saves.

The Lakers return to action on Sunday, when they participate in a double header with the women Lakers at Rockhurst. Game time is set for 1:30 pm.
