Lakers Go Cold in 75-49 Loss to Tiffin

Erie, Pa. - The Mercyhurst Lakers struggled from the field, shooting 24 percent in the first half and missing all eight of its three point attempts in a 75-49 loss to Tiffin Saturday. The Lakers fall to 2-8, while the Tiffin Dragons move to 4-7 this season.

The Lakers entered the game as the GLIAC's top shooting team but never found their rhythm after taking an early 6-2 lead. Tiffin scored the next 18 points and extended the lead to 27-8 with 9:47 to go in the half. Tiffin exposed the defensive breakdowns of the Lakers multiple times, shooting 47 percent from the field. Tiffin's first turnover did not come until 12 minutes into the first half, and the Lakers had already compiled five. Tiffin led 37-18 at the half.

Starting the second half, Mercyhurst got within 16 points of the Dragons at the 15:50 mark but Tiffin answered with eight straight points and never looked back.

Amy Achesinski was the only Laker to score in double digits, finishing with 11 points. Mara Dreiser had six points, seven rebounds and five assists. Lindsay Whipkey making her first start of the season had eight points and seven rebounds.

One area where Tiffin exposed Mercyhurst came on the boards where the Dragons held a 48-33 rebounding edge.

Mercyhurst will return to the court on Monday when it plays host to West Virginia Wesleyan at 7 p.m.
