Nov. 24, 2007

Box Score

Tiffin, Ohio - The Tiffin women's basketball team scored 13 consecutive points late in the second half to defeat Mercyhurst 74-63 Saturday. The Lakers held a 57-55 lead with six minutes to play before the Dragons put together a 13-0 run over the next three minutes to pick up the win.

Mercyhurst came back from a 32-30 halftime deficit to lead by as many as six points early in the second half. Four consecutive free-throws by Amy Achesinski, who ended with a game-high 24 points, put the Lakers on top 55-51 but Tiffin answered with four in a row to tie the game.

Achesinski added two more free-throws with six minutes to play but Tiffin's Megan Fletcher answered with a three-point play that put Tiffin ahead for good. Fletcher followed that up with another bucket and Tiffin added three more field-goals and a pair of free-throws over the next three minutes to put the game away.

The Lakers entered the game as one of the hottest three-point shooting teams in the country but made just 2-of-13 from long range. Achesinski continued to impress in her freshman campaign, adding six rebounds and a pair of steals to her 24 points. She was also a perfect 12-of-12 at the free-throw line. Junior Stephanie Prischak was 7-of-8 from the field and ended with 15 points. She made one of her two three-point attempts and is now 8-of-10 on the year from long range. Stevie Spetoskey added 10 points.

Tiffin improves to 1-3 on the year and Mercyhurst drops to 1-3. The Lakers will be back in action Monday at Slippery Rock at 7 p.m.
