The Mercyhurst men's soccer team continues to struggle this season with a 1-0 loss to Houghton College on Tuesday afternoon. The Mercyhurst Lakers have now dropped to 5-7-2 this season, losing its last three games. Houghton College improves to 6-2-3 overall.
The story of the season for the Lakers men's soccer team continued on Tuesday when Mercyhurst outshot Houghton 15-8 but failed to capitalize on any opportunities. Late in the second half, the Houghton Highlanders' Tyler Haggerty finished a corner kick from Josiah Snelgrove to give his team the winning goal.
Mercyhurst also held a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks. Houghton's goalkeeper Erik Lefebrve did a fantastic job of thwarting the Lakers offense with eight saves.
While the Lakers have a young team this year, they need to bounce back quickly for their games against GLIAC opponents Findlay and Ashland this weekend.
Mercyhurst is currently third in the conference and needs the two wins to secure its ranking to have a chance to attend the conference semifinals in three weeks. After Findlay and Ashland, the last conference game the Lakers have is Gannon on Oct. 27.
