Box Score

Erie, Pa. - The Mercyhurst women's volleyball team closed out its 2007 home schedule on a high note, rolling past Daemen in three games on Tuesday evening. It was the Laker's 17th win, giving them the most wins in a season since 2002.

Sophomore Katie Fritz totaled 11 kills and three service aces, and Christine Nisbet and Erin English each added 10 kills to lead the effort.

Mercyhurst (17-14) finishes with a record of 13-5 inside the Mercyhurst Athletic Center and improved its mark against non-conference opponents to 14-1.

In the opening game, Daemen (10-24) stayed close behind Mercyhurst until the Lakers rattled off five-straight points to build a 25-19 advantage. From there, the Lakers received kills from Nisbet and English to close out a 30-26 win.

Mercyhurst opened a quick lead in the second game, building the advantage to as much as 14-8 before Daemen closed the gap and tied it at 16 thanks in large part to four Mercyhurst errors. The teams traded points and the game was tied six more times, until three-straight Mercyhurst kills -- one from Nisbet and two from Fritz -- built a 29-26 lead, and Fritz put a 30-28 win away with her fifth kill of the game.

Fritz played a key role again in the third game, but this time with the serve. In one rotation, she recorded three service aces and helped the Lakers to five-straight points and a 22-16 lead. From there, the Lakers cruised to a 30-22 win.

Along with Nisbet's 10 kills, she added three service aces to her school record total, giving her 134 on her career. Sophomore Julia Butler added 37 assists and three service aces, as well.

Mercyhurst travels to crosstown rival Gannon on Saturday for the season finale. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m.
