No. 3/No. 4 Mercyhurst scored four first period goals and got goals from five different players as the Lakers cruised to a 5-1 victory over Colgate Friday.
Sophomore Meghan Agosta scored just 2:21 into the first period and the Lakers never looked back. Geena Prough added a goal at 10:27, followed by power play goals from Valerie Chouinard and Natalie Payne just 73 seconds apart as Mercyhurst took a 4-0 lead after one.
Vicki Bendus scored early in the second and Colgate broke up the shutout on a Hannah Milan goal early in the third.
Mercyhurst outshot Colgate 19-9 in the first period but took just eight shots the rest of the way for a 27-26 edge. The Lakers were 3 of 6 on the power play, and Colgate was 1 of 9.
Colgate falls to 0-4-1 with the loss and Mercyhurst improves to 6-1-1. The Lakers will host Colgate again Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
