St. Bonaventure, N.Y. - The Mercyhurst College women's tennis team almost pulled off a strong upset, losing to NCAA Division I St. Bonaventure 4-3 Sunday. Under Division I rules, each singles match is worth one point, while the team that wins at least two doubles matches picks up one point.

Mercyhurst took the doubles point by winning two-of-three doubles matches. Jennifer Daly and Kim Ezzo won 8-4 at No. 1 doubles and Jaclyn McLean and Meghan Raynor picked up an 8-6 victory at No. 2 doubles.

The Lakers continued to hang tough in singles play as Daly got a 6-3, 7-5 victory at No. 1 singles and Ezzo cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles. St. Bonaventure swept spots No. 4, 5 and 6 to tie the match at 3-3. Jaclyn McLean split the first two sets with St. Bonaventure's Ana Delgado at No. 3 singles, but Delgado held her off with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 win that clinched the team victory.

Now 9-4 on the season, Mercyhurst closes the regular season by hosting Ashland Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Both teams enter the contest with a record of 6-2 in conference and the winner will finish third in the GLIAC.
