Box Score

Erie, Pa. - Trailing two games to one, the Mercyhurst women's volleyball team staved off defeat by winning game four and jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the decider. Northwood, however, came from behind to take the fifth game 15-11, sending Mercyhurst to their sixth-straight defeat Saturday afternoon at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center.

Mercyhurst (14-11, 2-10 GLIAC) opened the match with a 30-25 win in the opener, but in game two, the Lakers were plagued by miscues, committing nine errors and recording just six kills and eventually falling 30-15.

Game three was much of the same story for the Lakers as they managed seven kills to eight errors, while the visiting Timberwolves (17-7, 5-7) racked up 19 kills.

After Mercyhurst's 30-26 win in the fourth game, the Lakers appeared to have all the momentum, jumping out to an early lead. A timeout by Northwood quelled the Laker charge, and Northwood rattled off 11 of the next 14 points en route to a 15-11 win.

As a team, the Lakers tallied 12 blocks, but committed 15 service errors and hit just .066 as a team. In games two and three, the team tallied a hitting percentage of -.111 and -.028.

Senior Christine Nisbet notched eight kills, two assists, four aces and six total blocks. Sophomore Julia Butler totaled 37 assists and 22 digs.

For Northwood, Lana Sorokina recorded 27 kills, and Lauren Chapman totaled 47 assists.

The Lakers will look to halt their six-match losing streak on Oct. 19 when they host Findlay at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center. Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
