Lakers' Six Game Win Streak Snapped by No. 7 Findlay

ERIE, Pa. - Findlay showed why it is the No. 7 team in Division II, snapping the Lakers' six game win streak overall and eight game home streak, defeating Mercyhurst 59-47 at the MAC.

The Oilers opened things up with a 9-2 run, but the Lakers responded with an 11-4 spurt behind five points from Avi Fogel and a dunk from Shelby Chaney to tie the game at 13-13 with 12:44 remaining in the half.

Mercyhurst would trail 33-24 at the break as Frank Phillips scored all of his 12 points to lead the Oilers. Fogel kept Mercyhurst in the contest with 11 of his team-high 12.

Despite the low score, both teams shot the ball well in the opening 20 minutes. The Lakers hit 11-of-20 field goals (55 percent), and Findlay made 15-of-30 field goals (50 percent).

Mercyhurst cut the lead to three after a Chaney jumper made it 35-32 with 17:07 to play, but Findlay scored the next nine to extend the margin to 44-32 five minutes later.

In addition to Fogel's 12, Chaney and T.J. Mathis each scored 10 for the Lakers. Richard Field snagged a game-high nine rebounds.

Dorian Bass led all players with 18 for Findlay.

Mercyhurst held a 29-28 advantage on the glass and no Findlay player had more than five boards.

The Lakers will look to rebound with another GLIAC matchup on January 6 at 3:00 PM in the MAC.
