The Mercyhurst men's tennis team kept its unblemished fall record intact by defeating Allegheny 6-3 Tuesday. The Lakers were too strong at the top of the lineup for the Gators.
Mercyhurst took a 2-1 lead after doubles play by winning by identical 8-2 scores at No. 1 and No. 2. The Lakers then won all of the top four singles spots to pick up the victory.
Mariano Fava remained unbeaten at No. 1 singles, defeating Matt Winters 6-3, 7-5 in his closest match of the year. However, Lee Michael Marnik, Ronald Heurich and Kyle King had little trouble in their matches, dropping only 11 games combined in their six sets. Marnik won 6-1, 6-1, Heurich won 6-3, 6-1 and King won 6-3, 6-2.
Mercyhurst (3-0) will compete in the ITA Regional Tournament beginning Friday in Indianapolis.
