ERIE, Pa. - Former Mercyhurst women's hockey team captain Samantha Shirley has signed a professional contract with EV Zug Ladies in Switzerland.

Shirley was the Mercyhurst Female Student Athlete of the Year for 2005-06 after scoring 11 goals and adding 15 assists for the Lakers. She will play for one of the top Swiss A Division teams as the EV Zug Ladies won the league championship in 2004-05 and finished as the silver medal team in 2005-06.

In her career at Mercyhurst, Shirley had 125 points and finished with a record of 102-29-13 from 2002-06.
