Mercyhurst Opens Season with 10-3 Win at Catawba

Salisbury, N.C. - Junior Adam Mulherin (Syracuse, NY) scored three goals as Mercyhurst tallied seven times in the third quarter to defeat host Catawba 10-3 in men's lacrosse action on Thursday afternoon at Shuford Stadium and Kirkland Field. The Lakers won their opener, while Catawba falls to 2-1.

Catawba took the lead 1-0 after a quarter on Brent Smith's tally with 4:02 on the clock. Mercyhurst tied the 1-1 with 9:35 before the half on a goal by Jim Mullaley (Syracuse, NY). The teams would head to break knotted at 1-1.

Mulherin scored his first goal a minute into the second half and Bryon Lindler (Webster, NY) scored the first of his two at the 11:12 mark for a 3-1 edge. The Lakers went on to grab an 8-2 lead at the end of the third quarter. Mulherin scored twice in the fourth quarter for a 10-2 lead with Mark Van Hoever (Pleasant Garden, NC) closing out the scoring for the Tribe with 1:14 to play.

Mercyhurst outshot the Indians 40-19. Catawba held a 12-4 edge on face-offs. Senior Mike Bringley (Rochester, N.Y. ) made seven saves for the Lakers while Ben Huber made 15 saves for Catawba.

Mercyhurst will visit St. Andrews College Saturday.
