Mercyhurst Shuts Out Dubuque and Northwood, 7-0 and 1-0

Fort Myers, Fla. - Mercyhurst concluded its Florida trip Thursday with 7-0 and 1-0 wins over the University of Dubuque and conference-rival Northwood. The Lakers finished the spring trip with a 5-7 record.

Mercyhurst scored five runs in the first inning of the opener and coasted to the first-game win. Junior Kim Griffin held the Spartans to three hits and struck out seven. She also helped her cause with a run-scoring triple in the second.

The Lakers bunched three hits with two walks and two Dubuque errors in the first and then added solo runs in the second and third.

Anne Styn's sixth-inning RBI single decided the game against the #19-ranked Timberwolves. Styn's hit drove in Erin Ratajczak, who had singled, stolen second, and reached third on a passed ball. Jen Feret went the distance for the Lakers. She allowed only four hits and struck out three.

The Lakers are now off until March 10 when they begin play in a South Carolina Tournament against West Liberty.
