Lakers Drub Seton Hill, 20-2

Erie, Pa. - Mercyhurst (5-0) scored the the first 18 goals of the game and held Seton Hill (0-3) without a shot until midway through the third period in a 20-2 win at Tullio Field.

Eleven different players scored for Mercyhurst, led by Adam Mulherin, who scored a game-high five goals and added an assist. David Osier added four goals and an assist.

The Lakers held Seton Hill without a shot until just 3:56 remained in the third period, a span of 42:04 to start the game. During that time, the Lakers scored 18 goals and peppered Griffin goalkeeper Brian Kusterer with 38 shots.

Scott Janssen started the scoring for Mercyhurst with his only goal assisted by Bryon Lindner. Lindner finished with two goals and two assists, and Janssen also had two assists.

After Mulherin scored an unassited goal, Todd Richardson scored what proved to the the game-winner with 8:51 to play in the first. Simon Stocks, Blake Tandoi and Mulherin then closed the scoring in the period with one goal each.

The Lakers entered the second period with a 6-0 lead, and added nine in the second to lead 15-0 at the half. Mulherin and Osier combined to score six of the nine goals in the second quarter. Lindner added both of his goals and Jim Mullaley also scored in the second.

Tom Cross, Aaron Manzer and Osier all scored in the third period before Seton Hill finally got on the board with a goal from Chris Horigan with just 20 seconds left in the period. Manzer finished the game with two goals and two assists.

The Griffins made it back-to-back scores with the opening goal of the fourth quarter by Shawn Fink with a man advantage and 12:58 to play. That was the last of the Griffins' scoring, however, as the Lakers tacked on two more goals before the final horn, one by Manzer and another by Scott Sullivan.

Mercyhurst dominated nearly every statistical category in the game. The Lakers outshot Seton Hill 49-8 in the contest, won 20-of-26 face offs, and held a 42-15 advantage in ground balls. Mercyhurst also was successful on 15-of-18 clears, compared to just 9-of-24 for the Griffins.

Kosterer did his best to fight off the Laker onslaught, making 19 saves.

The Mercyhurst goaltenders had an easier, needing just two saves, both by Chris Davis in the third. With starter Mike Bringley getting the day off, Jason Lashomb played the first half, but did not face a shot. Matt Campanelli played the fourth, but did not make a save.
