North East, Pa. - Mercyhurst got three goals from senior Cassie Rand, including the game-winner early in the fourth quarter, in turning back Gannon 6-5 Tuesday night at the Mercyhurst North East Aquatic Center. Rand got help from senior Tessa DiLoreto, who scored twice, and from sophomore goaltender Gina Mieras, who made a dozen saves. The Lakers improved to 2-3 on the young season and 1-2 in the College Water Polo Association (CWPA) while the Lady Knights, ranked #9 in the CWPA East, dropped to 0-3.

Mercyhurst enjoyed a 2-0 lead after a quarter and a 4-1 advantage at intermission. Gannon scored two unanswered markers in the third and the teams divided four scores in the fourth and final frame.

Mercyhurst will visit Penn State Behrend Saturday.
