#5 Mercyhurst played its first home match of the young season Monday and came away with a 14-1 win over Queens University of Charlotte, N.C. The Lakers are now 3-0 while the Royals dropped to 2-3.
Ten different players had at least one goal for Mercyhurst, led by Bryon Linder, Adam Mulherin, Simon Stocks, and Greg Stocks with two apiece. Freshman David Osier closed the scoring late in the fourth period with his first college goal.
Mercyhurst jumped to a 5-0 lead after a quarter as it outshot the Royals 14-1 in the opening 15 minutes. The Lakers increased the advantage to 8-0 at intermission. The lead grew to 10-0 in the third before Queens scored its lone goal with 5:06 left in the quarter. The Lakers closed the third quarter with two more goals, then added a final pair in the fourth.
Mercyhurst outshot Queens 36-22 and finished 5 of 6 with the extra man. Mike Bringley made five saves in 53:26 as freshman Jason Lashomb made his first collegiate appearance and was credited with one save.
Mercyhurst will remain at Tullio Field Thursday and Saturday when Pfeiffer and Seton Hill visit at 4:00pm and 1:00pm respectively.
