Wheeling, W. Va. - Mercyhurst exploded for 41 hits and 44 runs Saturday in sweeping Wheeling Jesuit 20-1 and 24-6. The Lakers improved to 9-4 while the Cardinals dropped to 1-11.

Brandon Mendola pitched six innings in the opener to get the win. Mercyhurst used three pitchers in the nightcap with Brian Esperson working the first three. The Lakers erupted for 13 runs in the seventh inning of game two.

The teams will conclude the weekend series with a second doubleheader Sunday.
