#22 Lynn University Rallies to Defeat Mercyhurst, 9-5

Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. - Lynn University's baseball team came back from a three-run deficit to defeat Mercyhurst 9-5 Monday evening. The Fighting Knights' one-through-three hitters went a combined 5-for-14 with four runs scored and six RBIs and Rocco Bergin pitched three innings for his first career win. LU snaps a two-game losing streak to improve to 7-4 overall while the Lakers dropped to 3-1.

The Lakers jumped on the board with two runs in the first. David Lough doubled off the center field wall, scoring Joe Mariano. Lough scored two batters later when Wally Wieczorek singled up the middle. Mercyhurst added another run in the second on Marianos' double down the left field line, scoring Brian Zacour.

Lynn's bats woke up in the third inning. Brandon Mann drove Ricky Gerena in with an opposite field single to start the one-out rally. Nicholas Boisvert followed with a double to right field, putting runners on second and third and freshman Jason Ten Eyck cleared the bases with a triple to the left center gap. He trotted to home plate a batter later to give the Blue and White a 4-3 lead after Jimmy Bacon singled to right field.

Mercyhurst tied the game an inning later as Mariano smashed a solo home run over the left field fence.

The Fighting Knights took the lead in the fifth on Bacon's two-run homer.

The Lakers got a run back in the top of the sixth, but relief pitcher Bobby Nunn got Scott Monzel to line out to third with the bases loaded to prevent further damage.

LU closed the door on any comeback with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. George Brandner led off the inning with a double to the right center gap. Two walks and an infield single by Mann scored Brandner, extending the Knights lead to 7-5. Boisvert walked with the bases loaded to give LU a three run lead.

Tommy Tickenoff drove in the final run of the afternoon with a sacrifice fly to right field in the last of the seventh.

Adam Nine pitched the first five innings for Mercyhurst and allowed six runs (five earned) and seven hits. Ryan Schreiber worked the final three, allowing three runs and four hits. Joe Mariano, Scott Monzel, and Brian Zacour had two hits apiece.
