Julie Anderson scored her 1,000th point in the first half and finished with a double-double, but Mercyhurst (8-19, 4-13 GLIAC South) dropped a 75-68 decision in overtime to Gannon (13-14, 8-9 GLIAC South) at the Hammermill Center.
Anderson, who scored 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, reached her milestone with the second of two made free throws at the 11:41 mark of the first half.
Casey England and Christina Jackson combined for 51 of the Golden Knights 75 points. England hit 7-of-16 threes and finished with a game-high 28 points. Christina Jackson had a double-double with 23 points and 14 boards.
Mercyhurst led by five, 38-33, just 30 seconds into the second half after a lay up by Anderson. From that point, the Golden Knights outscored the Lakers 20-3 over the next 9:40. Both Anderson and Erin Solada, who led the Lakers with 19 points, were forced to the bench with foul trouble for most of the run.
The Lakers were not done, however. Mercyhurst slowly chipped away a the lead. With 3:37 left, Katlyn Petit sank a three to pull Mercyhurst to within a bucket at 59-57. Gannon's Ashley Lowdermilk answered right back with a three of her own to build the lead back to five. Mary Clare Harlan made it a two-point game again with a triple at the 1:35 mark, as the Lakers trailed just 62-60.
Beth Kraus fouled Anderson with 1:08 to play, and Anderson hit both free throws to tie the game. After a missed three by Lowdermilk, Anderson grabbed the rebound. Mercyhurst could not get off a shot in their next possession and gave the Golden Knights one last chance. An England three at the buzzer was off the mark and the game went into extra time.
In the extra period, the Lakers missed their first seven shots and Gannon went to the foul line 14 times, making 11 to put the game away.
In the first half, Mercyhurst quickly jumped up 5-0 on a jumper by Solada and a three by Priscila Nascimento. Gannon answered back with seven straight points and the teams battled back and forth before a Solada jumper gave Mercyhurst the 29-28 halftime lead.
Nascimento joined Solada and Anderson in double figures with 10 points. Solada grabbed a team-best nine boards and blocked a pair of shots.
Mercyhurst held Gannon to just 30 percent shooting in the game (21-of-69), including just 9-of-36 in the first half. The Golden Knights launched 31 threes in the game. England hit 7-of-16, but the rest of the team shot just 3-of-15. Lowdermilk shot just 2-of-14 from the floor, but dished out eight assists and had four steals.
The Lakers shot 44 percent (25-of-66) and hit 7-of-18 threes, but were just 4-of-14 in the second half and overtime.
The Lakers outrebounded Gannon 49-47, but committed 21 turnovers to 16 for Gannon.
It was Anderson's seventh double-double of the year. She finished the game with 1,013 points. She joined teammate Cassie Seth, playing in her final game, in the 1,000-point club. Seth ended her career with 1,105 points.
The game concluded Mercyhurst's season. The Lakers finished 8-19 for the second year in a row and finished 4-13 in the GLIAC South.
