#1 Mercyhurst Blanks Robert Morris 3-0

Dec. 9, 2006

Stats

Pittsburgh, Pa. - Mercyhurst scored a pair of first-period goals and went on from there to turn back Robert Morris 3-0 Saturday night in the College Hockey America (CHA) opener for both teams. The #1 Lakers improved to 15-1-1 overall while the Colonials dropped to 5-11-2.

Freshman forward Angelica Lorsell's second goal of the season, halfway through the opening period, proved to be the only goal junior Laura Hosier would need in posting her 5th shutout of the campaign. The lamplighter was Lorsell's first career game-winner. Junior Jackie Jarrell added her first goal of the season at 16:48 and freshman sensation Meghan Agosta finished Robert Morris and the scoring with a shorthanded tally at 9:55 of the second.

Mercyhurst outshot RMU 33-6. Freshman Heather Rossi, although brilliant in defeat, lost her 5th game in six decisions. Hosier improved to 15-1-0 as the Lakers won their fifth straight game.

The two teams went a combined 0 for 12 on the power play with the Lakers stymied in seven attempts. Six different players factored in the scoring for Mercyhurst with Agosta having the only multiple-point effort with her team-leading 13th goal and an assist.

The two teams will conclude the weekend series Sunday afternoon at 4:05.
