Ohio Valley Defeats Lakers 75-67

Erie, Pa. - Sophomore Stephanie Prischak scored a season high of 18 points as Mercyhurst lost to Ohio Valley University, 75-67. The Lakers are now 2-4 overall, while the Ohio Valley Fighting Scots are now 3-3 on the year.

Prischak hit 7-of-20 from the floor, 2-of-5 behind the arc, and 2-of-2 at the line and pulled down six boards. Senior Julie Anderson scored 15 points and had seven boards. Freshman Lindsay Whipkey scored 14 points with 5-of-7 shooting from the floor and 4-of-5 at the line and pulled down eight boards. Senior Katlyn Petit hit 3-of-10 and 5-of-5 at the line for 11 points.

The Fighting Scots were led by Natasha Holloway with 6-of-15 shooting for 19 points. Rachel Deaton had 18 points with 5-of-12 shooting.

The Lakers jumped out to a six point lead with 9:25 left in the first half 17-11. The Fighting Scots had a ten point run to take the lead with 5:27 left in the half, 22-18. Mercyhurst chipped away to tie the game at 26 with 1:35 left to play and took the lead 30-28 at half time.

In the second half, the Lakers continued to lead for the first 12 minutes by as much as six points. With a three-pointer by Britney Brooks, the Fighting Scots took the lead with eight minutes left in the game, 55-54 and led by as much as eight. A couple of foul shots by Petit brought the Lakers within three with 1:52 left in the game.

Ohio Valley scored its final nine points of the game at the free-throw line as Mercyhurst was forced to foul down the stretch.

Mercyhurst outshot the Fighting Scots from the floor, 22-of-58 (37.9%). Ohio Valley shot 37.7% (22-of-60) from the floor and 33.3% (7-of-21) beyond the arc.

Mercyhurst will look to rebound against Grand Valley State in a GLIAC match-up on Saturday, December 9 at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center at 1 pm.
