Box Score

DETROIT, Mich. - Shelby Chaney turned in his second straight double-double as Mercyhurst (4-2, 1-1 GLIAC) came from behind to defeat Wayne State (3-4, 1-1 GLIAC) 65-57 in GLIAC play.

The senior center scored 24 points on 9-of-17 shooting and hauled in a dozen rebounds. He also blocked two shots.

Avi Fogel added 16 points and three steals.

Kris Krzyminski scored 22 to lead the Warriors. The guard also led Wayne State with seven rebounds. Joe Carr added 19 points.

Mercyhurst led 30-25 in the first half after Fogel stole the ball from Krzyminski and got a fast break lay in, but the Warriors closed the gap to just 32-31 at the intermission.

Back-to-back buckets and six free throws by Chaney started a 16-5 run that erased a three-point Warrior lead to end the game. Wayne State still had a chance in the closing seconds after a three by Carr cut the Mercyhurst lead to three, 60-57, with 23 seconds left. But a pair of Fogel free throws and a three-point play by Richard Field finished the game.

Mercyhurst outrebounded the Warriors 36-29. The Lakers also went to the line 18 times, making 14, while Wayne State attempted just four foul shots all day, making two.

Mercyhurst will look to make it two in a row with a non-conference game at local rival Edinboro on December 6 at 7:30 PM.
