Stats

ERIE, Pa. -

Mercyhurst (17-3, 9-1 GLIAC) scored twice in the first 11 minutes and Jason Pedra added a pair of insurance goals in the second half as the Lakers claimed a 4-1 win over crosstown rival Gannon (11-6-1, 5-4-1) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) game.

The Lakers struck first as Kurt Young took a rebound of a Tyler Emerick shot and scored in the eighth minute.  Less than a minute and a half later, Kyle Jackson netted a score off a shot from 15 yards to the far right for a 2-0 Mercyhurst lead.

Pedra netted both of his scores in the second half, with the first coming at 60:21 with an assist from Matt Richards.

His second goal came on a free kick from 30 yards less than a minute and a half after the lone Gannon goal.  Geneo Oberst scored for the Golden Knights off a corner kick by Jonathan Brickman at 82:52.

The Laker defense held Gannon to just a pair of shots on goal.

Daniel Mudd made one save in net for Mercyhurst.

Steven Boehmer saved four shots for Gannon.

With the win, Mercyhurst awaits word on a potential NCAA bid.  The Lakers are currently ranked No. 4 in the Great Lakes Region.  The top four teams in each region earn bids.  Selections will be announced October 30 with first round games taking place November 2 and 3.
