Mercyhurst improved to 7-7 with a pair of wins on the first day of the Eastern Duals.  The Lakers defeated Carson Newman 32-12, then picked up an impressive 46-0 shutout win over UNC-Pembroke.

Zack Schafer won both his matches by fall.

Against Carson Newman,  J.J. Zanetta (141) started the match off with a major decision, and Don Cummings (149) followed with a fall (2:47) to give the Lakers a quick 10-0 advantage.  Schafer also won by fall (2:11) to extend Mercyhurst's lead to 23-0 after the bout at 165.  Hudson Harrison grabbed a major decision at 174.

Zanetta picked up a win by fall (2:43) against Pembroke to start the match.  Cummings added a major decision at 149, and Tedder followed suit at 157.  Schafer then pinned his man in 2:32 to put the Lakers up 20-0.    Hudson Harrison took a major decision at 174.  Frank Zatta picked up a technical fall (17-1) at 184, Paul Bergman and Nick Marcellino won by decision.  Payne Lint (tech. fall, 17-1) and Leonard Calhoun (WBF, 4:24) completed the perfect sweep for the Lakers.

Mercyhurst finishes action on Saturday with a pair of matches.  The Lakers take on Newberry at 9:00 AM and hit the mats against Anderson at 1:00 PM.
