Lake Superior State rallied from a 1-0 deficit to defeat Mercyhurst 3-1 Saturday, completing a conference weekend sweep by Michigan's Upper Peninsula teams. The scores were 18-30, 32-30, 0-25, and 30-20. LSSU improved to 3-10 overall and to 1-0 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Lakers, who bowed to Northern Michigan and Michigan Tech Thursday and Friday, dropped to 11-4 and 1-3.
Mercyhurst started things against LSSU with a resounding win in the first game, but a second game overtime setback seemed to take the wind out of their sails. LSSU took game three by five points and the last by ten as Mercyhurst concluded three matches in three days.
Freshman OH Lauren Kubinski led the Lakers with 14 kills while sophomore Kristin Peterson and frehman Jenna Matson added 13 each. Senior Kari Clapham had 50 assists.
Mercyhurst will conclude its six-match conference home stand next weekend when Wayne State and Hillsdale visit Friday and Saturday.
