The Mercyhurst women's volleyball team won its third straight match to open the second day at the Shippensburg Tournament, defeating Southern New Hampshire, 3-0. Game scores were 30-21, 30-27 and 30-20.
Christine Nisbet paced the Lakers with 10.5 points, seven kills and three aces. Megan Fargo checked in with 10 points and a team-best eight kills. Kari Clapham dished out 31 assists and Jenny Oblock had 10 digs. Cara Nelson and Kristin Peterson served up three aces apiece.
Later in the day, Mercyhurst capped the tournament with a three-game sweep of Daemen. Game scores were 30-13, 30-20 and 30-27.
Jenna Matson scored 16 points from 16 kills. Sara Kuntz and Fargo each had seven kills. Nelson had 12 digs and Clapham notched 10 digs. Clapham also served three aces in the match, as did Nisbet.
With the wins, the Lakers improved to 4-0 on the season, matching the best start since the 2001 team. That team also started 4-0.
The 2005 squad returns to action on Friday, September 2nd, as the team hosts day one of the Mercyhurst Invitational. Mercyhurst will face Shepherd at 3:30 PM and Fairmont State at 7:30 PM.
