Lakers Open Play With 3-0 Win Over Holy Family

Shippensburg, Pa. - Mercyhurst began play in the Shippensburg Tournament Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 win over Holy Family University of Philadelphia. The match marked the women's debut of Ryan Patton. The scores were 30-12, 30-22, and 30-21.

Junior Megan Fargo led the Lakers with 14 points. Sophomores Kristin Peterson and Sara Kuntz had 9.5 and 8.5 respectively. Fargo was tops with ten kills while sophomore Christine Nisbet had seven kills and hit .417. Senior Kari Clapham registered 30 assists.

Later in the day, Mercyhurst defeated host Shippensburg in four games. The scores were 28-30, 30-22, 30-27, and 30-28.

Freshman Jenna Matson led the way with 13 kills. Sophomores Kristin Peterson and Sara Kuntz added 12 and 11 respectively. Junior libero Cara Nelson had 25 digs and junior Megan Fargo had seven blocks.

Mercyhurst will continue in the Shippensburg Tournament tomorrow.
